New Poem of the Week: “Angler’s Affirmation”

Angler’s Affirmation

Right now, somewhere,
someone stands in a stream and casts

This is a poem fragment or micro-poem from my current notebook.  It is a reflection on a beautiful moment and although I am not into fishing personally, I truly admire the skills of the fly-fishermen I know and so this is dedicated my angler friends.  It is from my notebook The Nameless Way Woven With Crooked Genius many of which I hope to include in my next book, Deepening the Map.

New article: Getting Physical to Shift Your Energy

An article about reminding ourselves that there are times where we need a little help to get out of our minds and into our body to liberate our consciousness from the snares of emotionally binding thought patterns.

Once again we are reminded that life is more about being than it is about doing or having.

Let’s face it, when you get into a funk it’s hard to get out.  It’s especially hard to shake those bad feelings.  You know, the churning stomach, the aggravated mind.  We’ve all been there, and we’ve all tried to think our way out of tough situations or decide on a plan of action in the heat of the moment when those feelings are gripping us and prodding us.  But that rarely works.  When we are in that condition, all charged up, depressed or anxious is not the ideal time to  make good decisions.

Get out of your mind, and into your body.

One good way to shift those feelings and get yourself back to a place where you can begin to work on the actual actions you need to take to change something in your life, is by getting physical. Call it exercise, call it movement . . . (More)

New Poem: The Heron

In honor of the passing of Pete Nelson I have chosen my poem The Heron as the Poem of the Week.  There are people and moments in our lives whose beauty is beyond us at times and since the unique character of each moment is fleeting and each form, each body is not meant to last forever at times we find the moment or person has passed . . . and it almost seems . . . well . . . I’ll let the poem do it’s work . . .

The Heron

A brief, startling moment of captivity, the body
moving faster than the grace of the wings

following the low narrow flow of the creek
